THIS IS NOT A RECALL! ADVISORY ONLY
RE: Canada Consumer Advisory: Possible failures of heat exchangers in manufactured home furnaces. On January 30, 2002, the Government of Alberta, Safety Services Branch within Alberta Municipal Affairs issued a Consumer Advisory regarding the premature failures in some sealed combustion gas furnaces. York International has received a limited number of reports involving one model of it's manufactured housing furnaces. These furnaces were sold under the Coleman, or Red T Brands and are designated as model DGAT075xxx, which were sold during 1997, 1998, and 1999. The incidents involve failure of the heat exchanger which could result in a potential fire, or carbon monoxide hazard. These reports are currently under investigation for cause. (It is not known if the defects are product, application, or service related.) Owners of such models are advised to ensure that the annual maintenance has been performed and if unusual operation of the furnace is detected, to contact their local Coleman heating contractor for inspection/ service. The purpose of this memo is to alert everyone to the above and to provide guidance regarding inspection requirements. Inspection of these furnaces on an annual basis is advised to all consumers in the Owner's Information Manual. In addition to the recommendations in the Owner's Manual, an inspection and review of the following items should be included to ensure the integrity of the furnace adjustment and heat exchanger. 1. Inspect for proper gas orifice, manifold pressure and
firing rate adjustments, including derate requirements
for altitude. Consult the furnace Installation
Instructions for specifications and detail instruction.
Annual furnace inspection is the responsibility of the home- owner. Any repairs required are covered as applicable under the terms of the Standard Limited Warranty supplied with the furnace. Any failures of heat exchangers should be reported to Coleman/Stylecrest Technical Support @ 1-888-523-8266. |
